Summer Products: No Season Needed

My mother’s time belongs to spring and summer, while my husband claims autumn and winter. What is left for me? Persephone spends six months of the year underground with her husband, the king of the dead, and six months on earth with her mother, the goddess of the harvest. This arrangement has been in place for nine thousand years since the deal was struck. However, when she resurfaces this spring, something is different. The land is being lashed by rains, crops are growing out of season or not at all, and there are people attempting to build a road through the woods. Her mother does not seem able to stop them, and even the gods have lost control as the natural world changes rapidly.

As Demeter tries to regain her powers and fend off her daughter’s husband, who wants to permanently drag her back underground, Persephone gets a taste of freedom for the first time. She joins a group of protestors and, used to seeing the world from below, she looks down on the earth from the treetops with activist Snow. This experience makes her realize that she can make choices for herself. But what will these choices mean for her mother, her husband, and for the new shoots of life inside her?

No Season but the Summer takes a classic myth and turns it on its head, asking what will happen when our oldest stories fail us and all the rules have changed. Above all, it is a book about choice.
