The school year is coming to an end and Polly Giller can't wait for it to be over. She loves having her kids at home. However, she knows that she shouldn't take walks alone, even though spending time with Obiwan is a great source of relief for her.

Beryl is concerned about her friend Andy, who is eager to get involved with another young woman. A new couple has moved into the house next door to Andy and Len, and the walls seem to have many stories to tell. There are frequent loud fights, which frighten Andy for the woman's safety.

To add to the worries, Beryl also has a stalker who has been sending her emails for years. Although she has dismissed it, the situation seems to be getting more serious. Rebecca is concerned for her friend, which means Polly will soon be involved as well.

Rebecca's end-of-year art show, birthday dinner in Des Moines, and moving back home are all experiences that are both scary and exciting, showing how much she has grown.
